IP Release and Renew Procedure

The following instructions show you how to find your IP address and if necessary release/renew your IP address under Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista. If you would like more information concerning IP addresses and understanding more about establishing an internet connection try out this detailed tutorial.

IPCONFIG Usage

    1.   Go to the start menu and select Run.

Then type cmd in the box and click OK.

2.    At the end of the line that starts with C:> type ipconfig
Then press Enter.

Your IP address, subnet mask and default gateway will be returned to you.

On TurboNet(Fiber), the IP addresses will be like this one: 69.149.x.x

If your IP address is 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x, then you are receiving an internal IP address from your router or other device on your local area computer network(LAN). The IP address that the world sees is that of the router and you would have to use the router webpage or utility to view this IP address. You will need to check with the manual of your router to determine how to renew and release the IP address from the router.

If you are receiving a 169.254.x.x address, then your computer is not able to connect to the internet. You will need to run the ipconfiig /renew command mentioned below or troubleshoot your LAN to see if a cable or network card is causing the issue.

 3.    If you want more detailed information about your network connection, type ipconfig /all at the prompt. The same information as ipconfig is shown with the addition of your MAC (hardware) address, DNS and DHCP server addresses, IP lease information, etc.

4.    If you are having trouble with your TurboNet(Fiber) connection, it may be fixed by releasing and renewing your IP address.

Type ipconfig /release at the prompt and press enter.

Then type ipconfig /renew and press enter again.

If your connection is okay, a valid IP address, subnet mask and default gateway will be returned to you after a few seconds. Again, Turbonet(fiber) will have an IP address and default Gateway starting with the 69.149.
