Question to CSR:
A customer ask if there is anything EpicTouch can do about them receiving too many virus alert notices? Would spam control help?
Answer:
Epic Touch uses software on the Internet Mail server to help in controlling the spread of computer viruses. Once an email is identified as having a virus by the server, the email is removed from reaching the customer and the VirusAlert email letter is sent in its place. The virus notification letter makes the user aware that Epic Touch has denied an email delivery that contained a virus. If the denied email had a non-spoofed FROM address, the user could contact the sender and request the email again without the virus attached.
If Anti-Virus server software was not in place, the customer would get the original email and the attached virus. The customer would then have to deal with the virus and its effect on his computer.
The virus notification messages is a notification of the actual virus attached to an email and is not associated with SPAM. The SPAM delete service would not remove these notices.
The customer could setup a message filter or rule to delete the messages before the message reaches his email client. Visit KB article Remove EPICnet Virus Alert Notices to view the steps to set up the filter.
**The Epic Touch email virus control software is a no charge service to Elkhart.com email users. Though this software eliminates the majority of virus sent through email, the software is only one line of defense against viruses. As always, Epic Touch recommends you install personal anti-virus software, such as Symantec Norton Anti-Virus or McAfee Virus Scan, on all computers in your home. The addition of personal virus software brings another line of defense against viruses.**
